Doctor, engineer, lawyer, teacher, the list of career options is endless. Have you ever thought about ‘entrepreneurship as a career’? Utthistha throws some light on pursuing this avenue as your career.
Entrepreneurship is an attitude that involves willingness to risk, venturing into unexplored fields, focus and commitment. To be an entrepreneur there are a multitude of other aspects required. This piece of write up today is going to answer a few intriguing questions for all aspiring entrepreneurs.
What is required by me, to become an entrepreneur?
The word ‘entrepreneur’ is most of the times synonymously used with a person who starts a business. This synonymous usage may not stay apt all the time. Entrepreneurship is a super set that consumes business activities. A business person could be an entrepreneur but an entrepreneur need not necessarily be a businessman. There are social activists, teachers, parents and a lot of other people who we find enterprising. All of them could be titled as entrepreneurs. In short, an entrepreneur is one who is adventurous, ready to take up risk and be a trendsetter.
Some of the evident entrepreneurial qualities for you to appraise yourself are presented below
How should I become an entrepreneur?
To become an entrepreneur, we need to assess the reasons that drive us to take the path of an entrepreneur. If the reasons are like:
“I am sick and tired of my boss. I want to be my boss.”
“I can’t do a 8 to 5 job. I should be able to come into office whenever I want to.”
“I can’t reach sales targets; I wish I could set my targets.”
and these drive you to take up entrepreneurship, then your venture will be a sure failure. As mentioned in the previous section an entrepreneur possesses qualities like relationship building, discipline and goal-oriented.
If you feel:
“I am sick and tired of my boss. I want to be my boss.”, then turn it into, “Today I am going to strike a great dialogue with my boss and will truly enjoy his company.” Until you achieve this within your employer’s company, you can’t achieve it elsewhere because the world gets brutal in reality.
“I can’t do an 8 to 5 job. I should be able to come into office whenever I want to.”, then you are not disciplined. A successful entrepreneur is at the office even before his best employee reaches the office. He sticks to his schedules and organizes his calendar to optimize time.
“I can’t reach my sales targets; I wish I could set my targets.” If you can’t reach a sales target, then you can’t see a decent financial turnaround and revenue for your own company. Where ever you are you should be able to achieve targets.
If you still disagree then you are simply running away from problems and not solving them. So, become a problem solver than avoiding it.
After getting clarity on the reasons you choose and once you ascertain that the reasons are genuine and positive, start meeting more and more entrepreneurs. They need not be only the successful ones but also listen to some failure stories to avoid making those mistakes.
Now you will have to do SWOT analysis of yourself, your business and the market you have chosen.
Then just take the plunge. To get mentored further on this share your ideas with Utthistha.
Future prospects as an entrepreneur?
An entrepreneur will be an entrepreneur forever because it is the manifestation of your attitude. Though you take up employment in some other enterprise, you will stand out with your achievements and proactive thinking. Entrepreneurs could be serial entrepreneurs, intrapreneurs, infopreneurs, ideators, facilitators, social entrepreneurs, venture capitalists or philanthropists.
